VSA Kentucky in partnership with the Kentucky Dept. of Education, and the Kentucky Museum at Western Kentucky University is pleased to offer a full day (six hour) training in Start with the Arts.
What is Start with the Arts?
Start with the Arts was developed by VSA and integrates the arts (creative movement, creative dramatics, music and visual arts) as vehicles for teaching early childhood curriculum themes.
This program is designed to include children of all abilities with adaptive strategies built into each activity.
Start with the Arts develops literacy and pre-literacy skills, accesses learning for children of all abilities, and supports Common Core Standards and Kentucky Core Academic Standards.
Who can attend?
Preschool, kindergarten, and early primary teachers, as well as special education teachers, arts teachers, teachers’ aides, school librarians, children’s librarians, Head Start teachers, childcare providers, and university education students.
What will I take away/receive?
Six hours of hands-on professional development in using the arts as a vehicle for teaching pre-literacy and literacy skills, core content and curriculum. Participants receive a professional development training certificate from VSA Kentucky for six hours of continuing education and access to the electronic over 400 page Start with the Arts activity and resource book.
